Kanha Ji Janmotsav: A Festival of Love, Devotion & Joy

Every year, on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the month of Bhadrapada, the entire nation comes alive with joy and devotion to celebrate one of the most sacred festivals — Shri Krishna Janmashtami, also known lovingly as Kanha Ji’s Janmotsav. This day marks the divine birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, in Mathura.

Lord Krishna was born at a time when darkness, injustice, and cruelty had spread across the land. His arrival not only lit up the city of Mathura but also offered the entire world a path of love, compassion, and righteousness. His childhood was full of divine mischief and miracles — stealing butter, dancing with the gopis, and defeating mighty demons like Kaliya.

From the playful lanes of Gokul to the grand palace of Dwarka, Krishna’s life taught the world that no matter how complex life gets, with love, truth, and patience, anything is possible. His guidance to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, immortalized in the Bhagavad Gita, continues to be a timeless source of wisdom.

On Janmashtami, devotees fast throughout the day, temples are beautifully decorated, vibrant tableaux (jhankis) of Krishna’s life are created, and at midnight — the moment of his birth — he is welcomed with conches, bells, and chants. Children dress up as little Krishna, and the air echoes with chants of “Nand ke anand bhayo, Jai Kanhaiya Lal ki!”

This festival is not just a religious celebration; it's a spiritual experience — a reminder of the eternal bond between the soul and the Divine.

Jai Shri Krishna! Radhe Radhe!
